RIVERVIEW, Fla. - Storm season is in full swing.  In recent days the some of the country has seen major flooding, which begs the question, "Is your home ready for flood waters?"

Stanley Steemer has created an artificial floodhouse in Riverview to simulate standing water inside of a house.  It's an 1800 square-foot house equipped with a sprinkler and drainage system.  It was built to train drying technicians, insurance experts, and other professionals in the fields of carpet, upholstery, air ducts and more.

Stanley Steemer manager Ray Lisotto said, "The water that does the most damage is the water you don't see the water that's in the walls."

Experts like Lisotta use equipment to test how much water is in the walls, and they can determine if your carpet can be saved.  Professionals can also check your crawl spaces for standing water, which can cause more damage and health risks, like fungal growth or mold.

The folks at Stanley Steemer gave these tips:

1- If you know a storm is coming put sandbags on both sides of your doors and plywood on the windows.

2- Shut off the power in your house.

3- If you have wooden furniture wood stains can transfer onto the carpet so remove furniture from the carpet or place aluminum foil underneath furniture legs.

4- Don't forget to contact your insurance company and if there is sewage back-up get out of your home to avoid contamination.
